My mom congratulated me on taking a 5-day break over the holidays (email checking permitted but limited to one hour daily). Being entrepreneurs themselves, my parents certainly encourage hard work and have always exemplified it. Perseverance, consistency and persistence were deeply ingrained in me from a young age.
While skill-based recruiting and staffing are not yet ubiquitous, there’s even more room for improvement (and therefore opportunity) in “soft skills” assessments and deciphering the character traits that will make a candidate successful in a role in a given work environment. Many characteristics are particularly relevant to success in entry-level jobs requiring on-the-job training.
I am increasingly curious about ways to capture lived experiences that can be translated into predictive indicators of performance. Just yesterday, I proceeded with a tooth extraction even though I am still recovering from a severe back injury. I don’t know what that says about me. I hate procrastinating and I don’t mind ripping the bandaid off.
Objectively recording lived experiences might be more helpful than any psychometric assessment. Personality tests are flawed and static, relying mostly on self-awareness and truthful self-reporting. Are there ways for individuals to consistently journal daily experiences over time that would help match them to the best job and work environment? What are game-changing creative ways to uncover overlooked talent and achieve greater candidate-job fit? If you are working on solutions around these ideas, email me here and/or fill out this form. I look forward to hearing from you!
