If you have been a subscriber for some time, you know I have mixed feelings about the quality of public education, even recognizing the enormous privilege that comes with sending my children to one of the best school districts in the country. I also generally disapprove of parental homework. We received our first assignment the very first week of school. The task at hand is to write a story about perseverance. I am certain many parents in the class won’t have too much trouble coming up with one. I am no education expert and perhaps this is a way for the kids to learn perseverance in a more relatable fashion. Yet as often I find the homework lacking creativity and anchoring in the real world, especially in the context of current events.
I watched the presidential debate last night and went to sleep full of hope. I woke up frustrated by the deeply disappointing biased media coverage of the event. Unsurprisingly, the double standards run deep and despite an objectively infinitely stronger performance, Harris is being questioned on whether she brought enough substance and details about her plans and the evolution of her policies.
I have no doubt she will persevere and in many ways, it makes me even more confident about her ability to be a good president. I meet underestimated founders all day long. They are generally more prepared, know their businesses inside and out and have had to work twice as hard to get half as much funding as others. That’s the reality I want kids of all backgrounds to learn how to navigate as early as possible, as well as the critical thinking skills required to see through what might slow them down, fill them with doubt in their own abilities and temper their ambition, preventing them from reaching their full potential. The opportunity set is massive and I’ve never been more eager to continue investing in it. As always, founders can email me directly here and/or fill out this form. I look forward to hearing from you!
